The brass bolts go through the top and are mounted against a new hardwood caul on the inside of this instrument. In my opinion, the manufacturer used the wrong type of bridge for this 12-string guitar. These guitars have between 250 – 300lbs of string tension, and are very susceptible to tension related damage. A bridge with pins and strings that hook into the top would be a much more appropriate design.
