Unusual String Posts
Here is reason number two and also the main reason for the gap. The string posts have a small conical section near the base plate. Since the holes in the headstock weren’t modified for this unusual feature, the string posts could never completely slide into their proper position, creating that small gap between tuner and headstock. The holes in the headstock can easily be modified to make room for this conical area.
