Reinforcing the Rosette
The brace will be painted black using a special pigment mixed with shellac. This black paint will make the braces almost invisible, which will be going across the rosette pattern on the inside of the lute. It is important that the paint does not get dissolved by the glue that is used to glue them in place, because any bleeding of black paint into the carved rosette would be a major disaster.
